Hi,
I am 32 years old and have two missing teeth to the right of my front left two. I’ve spent part of two weekends researching my options. I like the idea of dental implants and wrote down some questions. One question is how long dental implants will last for me. I read that they last a lifetime, but I am only 32. So for my age, when would I need new implants? Thanks. Alok from GA

Thank you for your question. It is an excellent one, and we are happy to know that you are researching your options. Dental implants are the longest-lasting and most effective treatment for missing teeth.
How Long Will a Dental Implant Last a Young Adult?
A quality dental implant can last a young adult 20 years or longer. A March 2021 study published by Clinical Implant Dentistry and Related Research followed 10,871 dental implants in 4,247 patients. The implant survival rate at the patient level was as follows for three, five, ten, and fifteen years:
- Three years: 97.4 percent
- Five years: 96.7 percent
- Ten years: 92.5 percent
- Fifteen years: 86 percent
How Can You Get Implants as a Young Adult that Last?
You can get implants as a young adult and support your lifespan by choosing an implant dentist carefully. Before you schedule consultations with dentists, consider the following about the dentist:
- Post-graduate education in implant placement and restoration (dental crowns)
- Continuing education
- Use of 3-D cone beam CT scan for implant planning and placement
- Use of high-quality implant placement
- Use of high-quality implant crowns
- A history of successful dental implant surgeries and restorations
- Patient photos of dental implant cases
Schedule Dental Implant Consultations
We recommend scheduling dental implant consultations with two to three dentists to discuss your options. You may need bone grafting depending on how you have been missing two teeth. Dental implants require enough quality jawbone to fuse with and support them.
