Holistic dentistry—or biological dentistry—provides treatment in support of the fact that your oral health and overall health are interdependent. Holistic dentists, including Dr. Siny Thomas in Sugar Land, provide preventive care, diagnosis, and treatment options that support your total well-being.
Holistic Treatment Options
Dr. Thomas selects biocompatible materials and treatment options that protect and support your health.
- Metal-free all-ceramic crowns and bridges
- Mercury-free fillings
- Sanitary amalgam removal
Dr. Thomas avoids using materials in the office that could provoke sensitivities, instead using materials that are the most bio-compatible:
- AIRFLOW® therapy – A stream of pressurized air and water that removes biofilm (thin layer of bacteria) from your mouth
- Non-latex gloves
- Non-fluoride pumice
- Occlusal paper without red dye
How Do We Restore Teeth?
We restore teeth with metal-free, all-ceramic crowns.
Dr. Thomas uses e.max crowns to restore front teeth and premolars. They are metal-free and have exceptional strength. The high-strength ceramic core is overlaid with porcelain for highly aesthetic color and translucence that mimic your natural teeth.
If you need restorations on molar teeth, zirconia crowns are milled out of pure zirconia for extra strength. You’ll get natural-looking results.
Clifford Materials Reactivity Testing
If you have had Clifford tests, please bring in the results of those tests and we will incorporate their recommendations into your treatment. If you are interested in getting Clifford tests but haven’t had them done, ask us and we will be able to refer you where you can have that done.
Sanitary Amalgam Removal
If you need dental fillings, you’ll only receive mercury-free composite fillings from Dr. Thomas. If you have amalgam (“silver”) fillings and want them replaced with composite, he provides sanitary amalgam removal. He will minimize your exposure to mercury particles in several ways:
- Isolate your affected teeth while removing the fillings
- Provide oxygen for you to breathe in so you won’t inhale mercury vapor
- Rinse your mouth with a solution to which amalgam particles cling
Dr. Thomas understands your concerns for your total well-being and your interest in holistic, or biological, dental care. We will accommodate you if you have allergies or sensitivities to chemicals, materials, or other substances.
What Is Dr. Thomas’s Approach to Holistic Dentistry?
Dr. Thomas’s approach is to protect your oral and overall health by providing biocompatible and minimally invasive treatment.
He routinely examines your mouth for the following:
- Periodontal (gum) health
- Tooth health
- Harmony with your teeth, facial muscles, bite, and jaws
As we provide preventive care, we’ll explain the importance of your role in protecting your oral and overall health. Each treatment room has an intraoral camera and monitor for you to view your teeth as Dr. Thomas explains any areas of concern, diagnosis, and treatment options.
Although the state of Texas requires that dentists complete a minimum of 24 hours of continuing education each year, Dr. Thomas completes 150 hours—six times the annual requirement. As the director of the Kois Center Study Club Houston, Dr. Thomas trains other dentists in performing comprehensive patient evaluations, obtaining accurate diagnoses, and providing successful treatment outcomes.
