The Dental Implant Process

The Dental Implant Process

When a dentist can’t preserve the natural tooth then sometimes dental implants are needed. Perhaps you just want the smile you’ve always dreamed of, and at Cornerstone Dentistry in Sugarland, TX you can get just that.

Assessing the Teeth and Planning a Mode of Treatment

First thing to do is have an assessment to see what kind of treatment you need overall for your teeth. There may be an x-ray to see what is going on or a mold of your teeth taken. If dental implants are what is needed then we will move on from there.

Bone Grafting and Removal of Teeth

Sometimes a bone graft is needed to move forward and you will need up to a year of healing time before the implants can happen.

Placing the Implant and Healing Process

An implant is placed with a metal screw into the remaining bone so that you can screw the tooth on afterwards. It only takes a couple hours to complete and then your healing can start.

The Integration Period

The implants need to fuse to the bone in your mouth, and that is called the integration period. They have to be fully healed up so you may need to use dentures in the meantime.

The Restorative Process

This is when you choose what teeth to use such as crowns, bridges, or more.

Placing a Collar or a Temporary Crown

A collar is positioned over the healing implants to help the gums figure out where to grow. It is made of metal and only used for a small time.

Placing the Abutment

Basically the abutment is screwed into your now healed implants. Temporary crowns are used while the final ones are being made.

The Permanent Crown

Screwing the crown into the abutment is the final step to getting that perfect smile.

Dental Implant-Post Op Symptoms

A small amount of bleeding, swelling, or pain are possible afterwards.
