I just got porcelain veneers and I love them. In order to make sure I take good care of them, I made a homemade mouthwash. But, I want to chance damaging them so I want to run the ingredients by a dentist.
8 OZ filtered water
8 OZ hydrogen peroxide
2 TBS sea salt

Dear Katie,
I am thrilled to hear that you love your new smile. I’m glad you wrote about your homemade mouthwash. While it won’t do any harm to your porcelain veneers, using too much of it can lead to candida for you. This is because of the peroxide. It is great at killing bacteria, but is not good at distinguishing between the good bacteria and the bad. If you use it too much, you’ll lose so much good bacteria that you will end up with a yeast infection. You can still use it, just don’t use it more than once a week. The thing to look out for when it comes to mouthwash is if it contains any alcohol. This can eat away at the bonding
There are things you can do to help care for your porcelain veneers. One of them is regular brushing and flossing. Generally, for cosmetic work, I’d recommend Supersmile Toothpaste. This allows you to safely clean your porcelain veneers, keeping them beautifully white, without any damage to their surface. With proper care, well-made porcelain veneers can last decades.
I will admit to being a bit concerned that your dentist has not provided you with this information. The best dentists are good at following up with their patients even after their procedure is completed. This would include good post-procedural upkeep advice.
